Just stay in bed
Poem by Mo Conlan

It’s OK to stay abed
when the icy chill outside
will not relent –waits to knife
your bones upon arising.

It’s OK to stay abed
in the soft warm lair
your body has made
through the night,
beneath three blankets
and two foot-warming cats
also not wishing to budge.

Stay curled up, drift
and doze, no thoughts or plans,
wearing this warmth --
perhaps as our forebears did
sleeping under furry skins
bundling close together by the fire.
